Reply to this meme by yelling 'WORDS!', and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your journal and explain what they mean to you. Keep in mind that if I don't know you that well, your words might end up kind of esoteric/oblique. You'll only get given five words if you do include 'WORDS!' in a reply to this post, meaning you can safely comment (should you wish to do so) without having to play.
murgy31 asked me about Twitter, writing, fanfiction, CSI:Miami, and Horatio/Speed.
I first poked my head into Twitter less than a year ago. I was curious as to what the buzz was about. It didn’t take long for me to hook up with some awesomely cool folks, scientists, astronomers, skeptics, bloggers, TV folks. Twitter has given me the chance to get involved with people and organizations that I wouldn’t have been able to before. One of the things I really like about it is that pretty much everyone talks to everyone. I’ve been able to chat with so many people, and I mean chat not just send a tweet to and never hear back. It’s a fun place for me to hang out when I’m bored.
This is something I’ve come to much later in life. Though I’ve been writing practically my whole life, papers for school, technical stuff for various jobs I’ve had, lesson plans, stuff like that, writing fiction is new for me. I’ve only been doing it for a few years. I started writing a few years ago when I was off work on disability because of my heart problems. It was a way to pass the time. I am not the type of person who can just sit in front of the TV all day and not go stir crazy so writing helped me to get through that time in my life.
I was lucky enough to have gone through the American education system at a time when one was actually expected to learn something so I came into this new hobby with a pretty good knowledge of grammar and the ability to put a story together in a way that, I hope, makes sense, something I find seriously lacking these days. And even though it is a relatively new pursuit for me, I don’t see myself stopping any time soon.
I started reading fanfiction a long time ago, I want to say about 15 years or so, back in the early years of fanfiction.net. I started with Forever Knight then moved to X Files. Later on I found the CSI shows. I don’t read much anymore. It’s usually too much trouble to weed through the vast amounts of crap out there to find the few well written stories in fandoms that I still have an interest in.
I’m still not sure what it is about the show that keeps me coming back season after season. It’s rare for me to stick with a show for very long. My attention span for television is very short and I usually get bored with shows after a season or two. There are really only two other shows that held my attention from beginning to end and those were Babylon 5 and the X Files. All I can say is that the show is fun to watch. I never know what’s going to happen next.
This pairing was my introduction to slash. The first stories I read were from Sam-Tony and BJ Jones. I liked what I read and ended writing them together. I have since created my own version of Horatio and Speed that is nowhere close to what they were on the show.
