He was half tempted to go into the other room, pull Rick into his arms and do nasty things with him. He was fairly certain at this point that Rick wouldn’t object. But, his rational mind regained control and he pushed those thoughts away, for now. After all, this wasn’t the first time he’d had a fantasy about Rick Stetler. It was just the first time he actually found himself in a position to maybe do something about it.
A smile broke out on his face as he thought, “This is almost perfect. All I need is a beautiful woman behind me to complete this picture.” Then he laughed. “Yeah right,” he thought. “More likely some fat, skanky, old, toothless biker chick with tits drooping down to her bellybutton squeezed into a pair of jeans two sizes too small.” He laughed even harder as he gunned the engine and picked up speed. “It’s definitely time to get out of Dodge,” he said aloud.
Lately I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on my life. Maybe that’s just a byproduct of turning forty, I don’t know. But the more I think about old friends, those that are still living anyway, the more often I seem to run into them. Believe me, there are plenty of people from those days that I would love to never see again. Them I see all the time. Isn’t that just the way?
“I’ve heard people use the phrase, ‘He’s a big fish in a small pond,’ referring to someone who over inflates his importance. But, ya know what? Sometimes that pond is really a puddle. And puddles ain’t self-sustaining. Puddles evaporate, and that big fish, well, he’s left out in the sun gaspin’ for a breath.” Gabe looked down at his young protégé. “Don’t let him get to ya, kid. His puddle’s evaporating. He’s startin’ to have problems breathin’.”
