Microsoft lovers turn away now...

My separation from everything Microsoft is proceeding well. I downloaded Open Office for my Mac last week. My last fic, Snowbound, was written entirely on Open Office. I also downloaded a Mac version of Gimp. I already use both on the linux laptop, which my husband has right now because his hard drive crashed. I still need to convert my almost dead Windows desktop over. I can't do that until I get the external hard drive to pull all of our files off of it. (Screwing my knee up and the fact that I haven't been able to get my car out of the driveway, too much ice, put that on hold this weekend.)

I know all of the hardware in the desktop is still good, if not a little old. But the operating system, Windows XP Home, has gotten totally bogged down and would need to be seriously cleaned up or completely reinstalled. I do not see the point. I'm tired of all of the extra costs and hassles involved in owning Windows, paying for additional firewall, antivirus, and anti-spam software because the OS has so many security holes.

There's another snow event heading this way for tonight and tomorrow. Right now no one is willing to commit as to just how bad it will be. They're giving us the, “If it tracks north this will happen but if it tracks further east this will happen,” line. I have class at 8:30 tomorrow morning. I can't afford too many more snow days or the make up days will start eating into my vacation time, all of which I have plans to be out of town for. I will not be happy about that.

Hmm, not much else going on, I guess. Oh well, I have laundry to do...
