I saw the oddest thing yesterday...

...a seeing eye poodle. And I wasn't drunk. I swear.

You see, my town is the home of the National Guide Dog Foundation. People come from all over the world to the center to get guide dogs and to be trained to use guide dogs. They use Main St. as a training area. Yesterday was one of those training days.

I was walking up to the pharmacy and saw a woman standing out in front like she was unsure about going inside. She was feeling around the door, I assume looking for a braille sign. Turned out she was looking for the pet supply store next door. But it was her dog that caught my attention. Most, actually all of the guide dogs I've seen around the area are either German Shepherds, Labs, or Golden Retrievers. This was a Standard Poodle. I've lived in this town for 33 years along side the Guide Dog Foundation and I've never seen a seeing eye poodle. I guess it makes sense. Poodles are smart and the standards are the same size as a Golden.

And speaking of dogs, my mother's giant puppy managed to put my knee out this weekend. I've started to refer to him as Giant Puppy. He's 4 1/2 months old and he's already the size of a German Shepherd. Gordon doesn't realize just how big he is. I took him outside to play ball on Saturday (btw, we can't say ball in the house anymore, he understands it and gets all hyper. Hopefully he never learns to spell.) The fact that he's half Husky means he has inherited a need to run. So rain or shine, he has to run the yard every day. Several times a day. So he got so excited playing ball that on the return run, he wasn't slowing down. He was just running into me or jumping and body slamming me. One of the runs knocked me off my feet. I didn't fall but I twisted my knee, the bad one of course.

He reminds me of the Marmaduke comics I used to read as a kid.

The knee is getting better, btw. I can bend it again but I can't manage the stairs at work yet so I'm relegated to the 40 year old elevator in the building. If you don't hear from me again, someone call maintenance.

Suppose it would be okay to C&P the seeing eye dog part? Would love to send that to a couple FB pages. They would get a kick out of it.
